Universes Incorporated

TechTonics Inc. is the most innovative company in the universe. This is because they’re in possession of a device that lets them travel to other, more innovative, universes. With this unfair advantage, they’re titans of the tech industry, riding high on poached technologies and cooked books. Unfortunately for them, their marquee scientist, Dr. Isaac Hunter, is currently dead. Fortunately for them, like all other business dilemmas, they can solve it by “borrowing” from the multiverse!

However, things go awry when their new Dr. Hunter turns out to be from a universe where he's anything but a brilliant doctor. This horribly ordinary Isaac, with help from two sympathetic TechTonics coworkers (Holly; ribald and anxious, and Montel; wry, bald, and confident) must now avoid being found out while searching for a way home. He’ll battle overbearing bosses, dastardly rival companies, interdimensional business meetings, harrowing amounts of red tape, and, of course, the outrageous inventions that got the original Isaac killed in the first place – all in the span of about three business days, adjusted for unpaid overtime (and time travel).

Universes Incorporated is primarily a comedy, and runs 65,000 words. Its tone is similar to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, with a smaller-scale story that’s more grounded in reality (albeit an alternate reality). You can expect:

  • Fun wordplay

  • Snappy dialogue from quirky characters

  • Flippant lists

  • Just enough real science and drama to make all it seem mildly plausible
